11 Nov My AW18 Fashion Picks with intu Merry Hill
After moving to Birmingham City Centre, I became pretty lazy when it came to shopping. I walk through the centre daily, so the thought of shopping there never really appealed to me. Online shopping became my go-to, yet so did the returns counter. So much so, I actually became a regular and made friends with a lovely lady at a Doddle stand. Safe to say, online shopping hadn’t always been successful and shopping for myself was losing its enjoyment. So when intu Merry Hill invited me along on a shopping trip, the process of actually planning a day out to shop and treat myself felt exciting!
As I lived very close to intu Merry Hill growing up, it was always my place to go. Whether that be for shopping, a trip to the cinema, catch-up with friends, or just to get out of the house on the weekend. I was always there! I actually have a bit of a soft spot for the place. The early teen nostalgia, picking up my pre-ordered CDs and hanging out with friends. With everything being pretty much under one roof, the centre is full of convenient places to shop, eat and socialise. I took the day as a challenge for myself. To go to shops and actually try everything on before making any rash purchase decisions! I didn’t realise how much I actually missed having shopping trips with friends.
Firstly, I headed to the shops that I wouldn’t usually shop online from and picked up clothing that I have struggled with in the past. I brought myself a pair of jeans, as I only owned one pair that actually fit! Finding a pair that I liked and fit well seemed impossible online. I also brought goodies from New Look, H&M, Topshop, Primark, and Debenhams. I wanted to grab some key Autumn Winter statement pieces, something completely different to anything else I owned. So I searched for deep tones, rust-like shades, and winter-friendly fabrics. I was actually in luck, there were some hefty discounts and sales in pretty much every store.
My absolute favourite purchase was this beautiful Velvet Midi Dress by Girls On Film. The best thing is, I stumbled across this in Debenhams and almost walked away, as I wasn’t sure about the lace trims. Then my friend reminded me that I could just try it on. So I did just that, and I actually LOVE the lace trims. Immediately I fell in love, and with 25% off in the sale, I basically ran to the till. I paired this with the Pointed Croc Chelsea Boots from New Look. I actually brought these a size bigger than my general shoe size, so once again the opportunity to try on in-store was on my side.
With the dress being quite long, I searched for a cropped jacket to help break up the look. I found this Contrast Stitch Utility Jacket from Topshop, a gem that was also in the sale! I like how the casual style clashes against the dressed-up feel from the velvet. Being AW prepared, I popped on a pair of my trusty 40-denier tights. I always grab these from Primark, where I also picked up these beautiful deep green statement earrings for £3. Primark at intu Merry Hill is currently being refurbished which is due to be complete just before Christmas. It honestly looks great so far, so big and clean, and actually had a more premium vibe than any other Primark I had visited previously. Can’t wait to see how it looks when complete!
Too many shopping bags later, I had a massive smile on my face and was ready to reap the other qualities intu Merry Hill had to offer. As I met up with my friend and her lovely little boy, we went for some lunch at the cafe inside of Debenhams. Following this and a few more shops late, we discovered a Little Dessert Shop in Eat Central, the food court inside the centre. This was my first time at this dessert chain, it definitely won’t be my last! I had a GIANT slice of Twix cheesecake and a side of gelato to finish off a great shopping day. Looking at the time when It was time to leave, 8 hours had passed. My feet were as flat as a pancake, a successful shopping trip complete. Thank you intu Merry Hill for having me!
